THE director of Inish
Oh water at Burt has said she was gutted yesterday
following a fire at their plant in the early hours
of Monday.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent last night,
Magreth McGill said it seemed pretty clear that the
fire had been started deliberately adding it was too
early to say how much damage had actually been
caused.
“The damage caused is very extensive, the roof has
been damaged substantially and the equipment has
also been damaged, but at this point in time we’re
not really sure how much damage has been caused.”
Gardai have begun an investigation into the blaze
which was fought by fire crews from Buncrana and
Derry.
“We are hoping that anyone locally who might have
seen anything will co-operate with the Gardai in
their investigation,” Ms McGill said.
However she said she remained stunned and baffled at
the attack which could prove a devastating blow to
the business which had grown over the past few
months.
“I really don’t understand it at all, I don’t know
of anyone who has anything against us or why
somebody would want to do this, I’m absolutely
gutted by it all.”
The Inish Oh director said the company had sought to
strengthen their roots in the community by
supporting local groups and charities.
“Our business being successful brings benefits to
the entire community and I just can’t understand why
anyone would want to do this,” she said.
Anyone who has information regarding the fire is
asked to contact the Gardai in Buncrana on 9320540.
