Moville explores setting up new youth club 01.04.08

A PROJECT aiming to stamp out underage drinking in Moville is hoping to start a new youth group to create more activities for teenagers. Moville Community Alcohol Project is exploring setting up a Foroige Youth Club to address the lack of activities for 13 to 17 year olds in the Foyleside town.
Project co-ordinator David Simpson referred to a recent survey in which the young people of Moville blamed the lack of activities as one of the reasons for underage drinking. "We won't solve the problems that lead some young people to start drinking too early by not involving them in the solutions. Giving young people the responsibility for their lives gives
them self-respect and a sense of belonging that help them make good decisions in relation to their health and social lives," said Mr. Simpson. Meanwhile, Foroige regional youth officer Enda Gillespie added: “Foroige clubs are unique in that they offer young people the opportunity to run the club themselves in co-operation with their adult leaders. It enables young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and in the development of society." An information evening for adults interested in learning more about Foroige clubs and what their role is, will take place on Tuesday, April 8 at 7.30pm in St. Eugene’s Hall, Moville.
