Gardai in Buncrana have
renewed their appeal for information on a callous
attack that left a 17-year old local student with a
broken jaw.
The youth was walking on the town's Main Street when
he was approached by a man who punched him in the
face, breaking his jaw in two places.
The assault happened outside a pub on Sunday, June
17th, between 7pm and 7.30pm.
Garda Sgt. John O'Keeffe said the incident was a
"totally unprovoked attack on an innocent young
fella".
He said a number of people had come forward with
some information over the weekend. However, he
appealed for more eye-witness accounts.
"We are following a certain line of enquiry but we
would appeal for more information from anyone who
saw this taking place," he said.
The victim, who had just completed his Leaving
Certificate and hopes to go to university, was taken
to Altnagevin Hospital in Derry for treatment.
Sgt O'Keeffe added: "The incident happened in the
early evening and there were a lot of people around
at the time, so someone must have seen what
happened." If you have any information, please
