Black Prince drops anchor in
Greencastle
18.06.07
The Black Prince cruise
liner sailed into Greencastle yesterday bringing
with it 300 tourists and more than a touch of style. |
|
Boasting three bars,
three restaurants, two swimming pools, casino and a
crew of 200, the 11,000 tonne vessel, anchored for
12 hours just off the local harbour, while its
guests undertook a number of excursions in the local
area. |
Two tender vessels
ferried them ashore, where a number of local coach
operators awaited to take them on scenic tours of
Inishowen, the Walls of Derry and a number of other
places of local interest.
It was the last day of a three-week cruise for the
Black Prince and her guests that took in La
Rochelle and St. Malo in France, the Channel Islands
and Ireland including Kinsale and Killybegs.
Most of the passengers were members of the National
Trust For Scotland though the tour was also open to
the general public. |
Cruise manager, Roger
Pollen, told InishowenNews.com that Greencastle was
the 'perfect' stopover.
"It was very scenic sailing into Greencastle this
morning. It's a lovely setting and there is a good
deep channel for anchoring. It's convenient for the
passengers too because the tenders don't have too
far to go to |

bring them ashore and
back to the ship," said Mr. Pollen, who is
originally from Downpatrick, Co. Down.
After its 12-hour visit to the peninsula, the Black
Prince owned by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, raised anchor at 8pm for the last leg of its
journey to Greenock, Scotland. |
