Sun yourself on the
Ballyhillion Riviera
21.08.07
YOU might struggle to
believe it but the tip of Inishowen had the sunniest
summer weather in Ireland this year.
And while Malin Head basked in its newfound Costa
Del status other parts of the peninsula were rained
off at the weekend. |
|
Our photos show the
luxury cruise liner, Boudicca, as she arrived in
Lough Foyle in all her glory at 8.30am on Saturday
only to be hidden from view behind a curtain of rain
three hours later.
Windswept Greencastle did its best with its
trademark friendly welcome, but many of the liner's
850 passengers had to |
eventually call it a
day on shore and return to ship soaked to the skin.
But back in Ireland's most northerly point,
sun-drenched Malin Head received nearly 60% more
sunshine than normal July levels. |
There were a total of
212 hours of sunshine last month - the highest
levels since 1955.
“On July 15th there was a record amount of daily
sunshine, with a total of 15.3 hours," said a Met
Eireann spokesperson.
Malin Head Community Association said they were
delighted with their new reputation as Ireland's
most Northerly AND most sunny point. |
