A BURNFOOT family are
"saddened beyond words" by the murder of their
19-year old son and brother.
Liam Devlin, 19, from The Cottages, Burnfoot, died
after an alleged altercation at Linsfort Drive,
Creggan, Derry, in the early hours of Saturday.
Two men appeared in court in Derry yesterday charged
with his murder.
Sean Cruickshank, 19, from Lislane Drive and Edward
McEleney, 20, from Circular Road, both in Creggan,
denied murdering the Inishowen teenager.
The court heard that when charged, Mr. Cruickshank
made no reply while Mr. McEleney said he was not
guilty.
Solicitors for the accused told Derry Magistrates
Court that both would strongly deny any involvement
in the murder. The defendants were refused bail and
were remanded in custody to appear via videolink on
August 30th.
Liam Devlin was the eldest son of Liam and Helen
Devlin, who have another son and two daughters.
Local priest, Fr. Michael Porter, who is counselling
the family, told InishowenNews.com: "This is a very,
very difficult time for the family. They are
struggling to believe what has happened. They are
saddened beyond words."
The body of the deceased man remained in a Belfast
hospital yesterday following a post mortem. Funeral
arrangements have not yet been confirmed. |
