‘The Boss’ got great Donegal welcome – Keaveney 01.04.07

Despite being accosted by a Pro-Life campaigner in Buncrana and a protest in Burt by the owners of Fahan Marina, Deputy Cecilia Keaveney said Taoiseach Bertie Ahern’s visit to Inishowen on Thursday was a ‘roaring success’.
“‘The Boss’ received a tremendous reception in Carndonagh at the official opening of the Alzheimer’s Unit, at the Market Square in Buncrana with local cumann members and members of the Ar Ais Aris Festival and at the Community Forum hosted by the local Fianna Fail organisation in An Grianan Hotel, Burt,” she said.
“I’m immensely proud of the efforts that
Deputy Cecilia Keaveney looks up to 'The Boss'.
have gone in by people involved in all three events. Such a visit does give us an opportunity to put our best foot forward and this was certainly the case on Thursday,” she said.
Speaking about the concerns about staffing of the new Ard Aoibhinn Alzheimer’s Unit in Carndonagh, she said: “Given that Garda clearance and other procedures are being completed to ensure that training begins for staff at the unit shortly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish them every success in their new positions.
“I am sure that the families of those who will be using the service over the coming months will acknowledge what a great facility it is to have in the peninsula.”
The Moville-based T.D. said she was delighted with the turnout at the Community Forum held in An Grianan Hotel.
”As chair of the Joint Committee for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, working with community groups to deliver improved facilities into rural areas is one of my key strengths.
“I spend a significant amount of my time working on behalf of community groups and while much has been delivered over the past five years in terms of local facilities, there remains a lot more to do and many exciting projects on the boil.
“I sincerely hope that I have the opportunity during the term of the next Dail to continue this work. However, events like those today
give me more optimism not only at the turnout and reception for the
Taoiseach but the positive reception I am getting on the doorsteps,” she added.
