Donegal County Council
has pledged to introduce a beach management strategy
to maintain and boost the number of Blue Flags in
the county.
The move comes after Culdaff was stripped of its
coveted award this year, mainly because of
persistent camping in the sand dunes. |

New signs highlighting
that camping is prohibited in the area have since
been erected at the beach car park.
Local Councillor Bernard McGuinness had a recent
meeting with the county manager, Michael McLoone and
welcomed his pledge to shortly sanction a beach
management strategy in the county including
Inishowen. |
Cllr. McGuinness had
previously called for an appeal of the decision to
take away the local flag but was told that no appeal
process existed. Meanwhile, he is confident the
local beach will regain its environmental award in
2008.
"Apart from the camping problem, the beach passes
all other criteria," he said. |
