Thousands of homes and
businesses across Inishowen suffered a power
blackout yesterday due to a major fault at one of
Donegal's main ESB substations.
The outage happened around 9.15am, affecting homes
and businesses across the peninsula including Malin
Head, Carndonagh, Moville and Greencastle, Buncrana
and Burnfoot. As householders and business people
jammed the ESB phonelines to find out the cause, ESB
engineers got to work on the problem immediately.
They identified the location of the fault quickly
and power was restored three-quarters of an hour
later, at around 10am. A spokesperson said the
glitch occurred at the company's 110Kv station at
Listillion, Letterkenny, which services Donegal
North East. Engineers were still working at the site
at 4pm yesterday but had not yet identified the
exact cause. |
