Inishowen Energy Fair to benefit local consumers 23.03.07

ORGANISERS of the first Inishowen Energy Fair aim to bring practical tips to consumers on how best to conserve energy for the benefit of the planet and their pocket.
Inishowen Rural Development Ltd (IRDL) said the fair would address the ‘information gap’ between Government policies and grant schemes and the ordinary energy user.
“We believe the Inishowen Energy Fair will play a key role in giving local people the chance to talk to the experts about renewable energies such as wind, woodchip, solar and geothermal. But it’s not enough and ongoing support is needed at local, not just national, level,” said IRDL manager Andrew Ward.
The fair at the Carlton Redcastle Hotel from 1pm to 6pm on Thursday, March 29th, is part of a Europe-wide being led by IRDL in association with partners in Crete, South East Sweden and Saxony in Germany. The project is co-ordinated by Trish Hegarty of Inis Communications, who highlighted the launch of an energy website www.inishowen.ie .
“The new website offers practical advice to local people on reducing their use of energy and on turning to renewable energies which don’t rely on fossil fuels such as coal and oil,” she said. “We intend to develop the site as we go on, to make sure it reflects the needs and experiences of local energy users and hope it will act as a powerful tool for change.”
Mr. Ward said the project had ‘tremendous support’ from the Department of Communications and Natural Resources and from the Power of One energy efficiency campaign.
For more details and to book workshop places at the energy fair, you can call IRDL at 9373083. No booking is required for the exhibition and all are welcome.
