Donegal FF explains €4m
discrepancy
14.11.07
FIANNA FÁIL yesterday
cleared up an apparent discrepancy regarding the
cost of the contract awarded for the building of
Buncrana's new decentralised offices. |
Earlier releases from
the party including Senator Cecilia Keaveney
suggested the contract was worth more than €21.6m.
However, the office of Donegal North East T.D., Dr.
Jim McDaid yesterday issued a press release stating
the contract was worth €17.5m.
A spokesperson for Deputy McDaid yesterday said:
"The €17.5 million is the figure that will be paid
to the contractor, Michael McNamara & Co., for the |
|
construction. The €21 million refers to the
overall cost of the project, and includes associated
costs such as professional fees."
The Office of Public Works (OPW) recently accepted
the construction tender submitted by McNamara & Co.,
and the contracts were signed last week.
Dr. Jim McDaid T.D., welcomed the news saying
construction of the should begin "in a matter of
weeks".
“This is a much-needed boost for Buncrana and will
result in the decentralisation of at least 120 civil
servants to join the staff already in the county,"
he said.
“It is also welcome news for the local Gardai who
will benefit from up-to-date facilities in the new
station." |
