Foyle set for marine tourism
boost
23.11.07
LOUGH Foyle is set for
a major tourism boost over the next six years.
The plans are part of the Loughs Agency Marine Tourism
Strategy 2008 - 2013. |
The strategy will
provide for stronger local partnerships and improved
facilities on the Foyle including marine tourism,
recreational fishing and better infrastructure. The
Loughs Agency will also take delivery of a new
fisheries monitoring vessel under the strategy.
It was approved yesterday at a meeting of the
North-South |
|
Ministerial Council on
Aquaculture and Marine Sector.
The Foyle blueprint was welcomed yesterday by Fianna
Fáil Senator Cecilia Keaveney who was confident it
would bring with it a much needed boost to both the
Foyle and Carlingford areas.
“This will bring significant investment and
regeneration to the Foyle and Carlingford Areas,”
said Senator Keaveney.
“The vessel new will be used by the Loughs Agency to
undertake the scientific monitoring to capture the
data that is required by the European Commission and
is necessary to aid decision-making in relation to
fisheries management.
"I would trust that the role of this vessel will be
to help fishermen and the development of the
industry” she added. |
