16th anniversary of Fullerton
murder
21.05.07
Sinn Féin has
reiterated its call for a British-Irish summit on
State collusion to mark the 16th anniversary of the
murder of Eddie Fullerton.
The anniversary of the Sinn Féin councillor's brutal
murder by a loyalist death squad in his Buncrana
home on May 25th, 1991, falls next Friday.
Nobody has been brought to justice for the crime
with the Fullerton family, supported by Sinn Féin
and international human rights agencies, since
endeavouring to uncover the truth about State
collusion in the murder. |

The family, through the
Eddie Fullerton Justice Committee (EFJC), have
consistently demanded a public independent inquiry
into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Cllr. Pádraig MacLochlainn insisted that an
Irish-British summit to investigate State collusion
during the conflict must now be convened. |
"Last Thursday marked
the 33rd anniversary of the Dublin/Monaghan
bombings. Next week marks the 16th anniversary of
Eddie Fullerton's murder. Both incidents highlight
the brutality of State collusion during the
conflict," he said.
"In particular, Eddie Fullerton's murder in Donegal
was a shocking incident in which agents of the
British state specifically targeted one of the most
effective and determined local councillors ever to
represent Sinn Féin."
The election candidate for Donegal North East said
the outgoing Fianna Fáil/PD Government had promised
but failed to deliver a Dáil debate on collusion
upon the publication of the McEntee report on the
Dublin/Monaghan bombings.
"If in Government after the election, Sinn Féin will
immediately initiate a Dáil debate on collusion and
will make a demand on the British Government for it
to participate in a joint summit on collusion.
"The lid must be lifted on the whole issue of State
collusion. The families of all those killed during
the conflict through British State collusion - but
especially the Fullerton family here in Donegal -
deserve the truth about their loved ones. Sinn Féin
is committed to the continued pursuit of that
truth." |
