INISHOWEN'S
highest-earning GP from the medical card scheme last
year was Dr. Michael J. Kennedy of Buncrana.
His practices - at Castle Avenue and the Medical
Centre, Buncrana - earned a total of €489,516 under
the GMS system. The HSE statistics show that the
surgery of Dr. Daniel McGinley, Moville, earned a
total of €367,681 in 2006 from public patients.
The figures also show that Dr. Maria Bradley,
Buncrana, received €356,628 under the scheme; Dr.
Geoffrey Bourke, Moville, €331,959; Dr. Kenneth G.
Devlin, Carndonagh, €361,400; Dr. Garrett Duffy,
Moville, €161,201; Dr. Frank Fogarty, Clonmany,
€65,182; Dr. Emer Gavin, Carndonagh, €248,101; Dr.
J.R. Madden, Carndonagh, €294,137; Dr. Siofra Nic An
Bhreithiun, Carndonagh, €328,931; Dr. Seamus
O'Domhnaill, Buncrana, €318,106; Dr. John Regan,
Newtown, €176,268 and Dr. Eamon Shea, Newtown,
€350,530.
The biggest-earning GP in Donegal last year,
according to the figures, was Dr. Anthony Delap of
Bunbeg on €598,431.
And T.D., Dr. James McDaid earned €135,518 under the
scheme at his Letterkenny practice.
The Health Service Executive stressed that the
figures were gross payments that were inclusive of
allowances paid to practitioners to employ nurses
and secretaries, to cover annual leave and grants
for the development and organisation of premises.
Meanwhile, the GMS earnings of local opticians
around the peninsula were: Irene Higgins, Carndonagh,
€61,658; McLaughlin Opticians, also of Carndonagh,
€34,282 and McQuaid Opticians, Moville, €12,517. |
