The North's High Court
has cleared the way for the parents of two Derry
girls to challenge a school's decision not to grant
them places.
It has been claimed that children living across the
border in Inishowen, but with addresses in Derry,
are allegedly receiving places at the school - St.
Cecilia's College. The families of the girls sought
leave for a judicial review after the school
withdrew offers of places.
The case is being taken by their parents against the
Western Education and Library Board, the Board of
Governors and the Department of Education.
During a preliminary hearing, the court was told
that some Derry families who moved to Donegal to
live in recent years, were using the addresses of
their grandparents in the city to secure school
places.
Lord Chief Justice Brian Kerr said the review could
be heard within two weeks.
He also ordered that the names of the parents should
not be published as it would identify the children
