Six lucky first time
buyers will soon be able to get their hands on a
brand new house in Carndonagh for about half the
price of an average home.
The bricks and mortar bargains have come to the
market at Donagh Park under the Affordable Housing
Scheme operated by Donegal County Council.
Included in the sale are two three-bedroom
semi-detached homes for a knockdown price of
130,000; two three-bedroom duplexes for only
105,000 and two two-bedroom apartments for just
80,000
Under the scheme- which all local authorities must
implement - a number of houses in private
developments can be offered for sale to eligible
first time buyers at a discount from the market
value of comparable houses in the area.
Carndonagh is the first town in Inishowen to offer
such properties although similar deals will be
available in due course in Buncrana and other areas.
A large number of eligible buyers made their way to
an information day on Wednesday at Donagh Park in
the hope of snapping up one of the six deals.
However, only families on relatively modest incomes
need apply.
To be eligible, you must be either: a tenant or
tenant purchaser of a local authority dwelling who
must then surrender your existing dwelling to the
Council; a tenant of at least one years standing of
a house provided by a voluntary housing body under
the Loan Subsidy Scheme; a person whose application
for local authority housing has been approved or a
person in need of housing who satisfies a certain
income test.
That income test, for a single income household,
must not have exceeded 40,000 for the tax year to
December 31st, last year. For a double income
family, the income must not have exceeded 100,000
taking into account two and a half times the gross
income of the principal earner plus the gross income
of the subsidiary earner.
Completed applications must be submitted to the
Housing Section, Public Services Centre, Carndonagh,
by Friday, April 27th, 2007.
