The first children's
drama series to be produced in the peninsula hits
the airwaves this Thursday on Inishowen Community
Radio (ICRfm).
'Henry the Elephant' is the story of Henry and his
adventures around the North West with his friends.
"In the first programme it's Henry’s birthday and he
and his friends go to Derry for the day. Henry’s
friends are played by pupils from the Moville School
of Speech and Drama in the first episode," says
ICRfm assistant manager, Emma McDermott.
Eileen Walsh wrote the series. She said: “It’s
fantastic to see the transformation from paper to
production. Now I know how JK Rowling feels!"
The production of 'Henry' was funded as part of the
Broadcasting Commission of Ireland's Sound and
Vision Scheme which promotes creative writing in
radio and television. And it's a real community
effort. Auditions were held throughout Inishowen and
young actors were selected for the recordings which
took place over the last three months.
"It has been a rewarding experience not only for all
the young actors involved but also for the
production staff at ICR who are working on the
project," added Emma.
Tune in to ICR 105 and 107.6 fm each Thursday,
starting on July 26th, at 4pm to hear about Henry’s
adventures.
Meanwhile, the new round of funding for the Sound
