A LOCAL priest's plan
for a unique Summer Hogmanay celebration in the town
next month is gaining momentum.
Fr. Eddie McGuinness' Buncrana Hogmanay will be held
from August 24th to August 26th with hundreds of
people expected to gather for the weekend.
Among the events lined up are a welcome party at the
Plaza on Friday, August 24th with a ceili and old
time dance at Tullyarvan Mill the following
afternoon. On Saturday evening there will be a
buffet dance in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel while
Sunday will be reserved for a number of outdoor
activities. These include a walk from Ned's Point to
Fr. Hegarty's Rock and onwards to Stragill beach,
finishing up with refreshments at Loreto House.
There will also be a programme of events for the
children including soccer, golf and darts matches.
Already Inishowen's Scottish contingent as well as
local people living in Scotland are making their
preparations for this unique cross-cultural event.
Fr. McGuinness previously told InishowenNews.com he
wanted to recognise the strong links between
Scotland and Inishowen and the contribution each
made to the other's communities over the years.
"There are so many people in this area who have
links to Scotland. Our Hogmanay event in August will
primarily be a networking opportunity for them," he
said.
Anyone interested in getting involved is invited to
the next meeting at The Lake of Shadows Hotel,
Buncrana, on Tuesday, July 10th, at 7.30pm. |
