League falls silent for Charlie

League held a minute's silence for its late chairman
Charlie O'Donnell at the launch this week of the
organisation's new website. |
|
The memory of Charlie,
who was held in the highest esteem by his
colleagues, filled the room as league members
reflected on his tireless and selfless work for the
organisation during 35 years at the helm.
Wednesday's website launch was one of the fruits of
his forward thinking, progressiveness and
recognition the league had to keep |
up with the times.
FAI grassroots manager, Liam McGroarty congratulated
the local organisation on becoming the first league
in the country to get an official website designed
by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
"This League is really well run and progressive and
one that is willing to grab good opportunities. It
is now the first League to get a website designed by
the FAI," said Fanad-born Mr. McGroarty. |
The launch gathering in
the Inishowen Gateway Hotel, was told the new
website would be a great way for the league's 18
clubs to keep up to date with news, results and
fixtures.
PRO and Quigley's Point Swifts committee member,
Terence Hegarty, had earlier revealed that more than
20 players from throughout the peninsula will have
emigrated to Australia by the end of the season. |
|
He said the website
would be an ideal forum for them to keep up-to-date
with league events during their time away.
“There is a huge Inishowen contingent out in Sydney
now. By the time the season is over I expect that
there will be well over twenty players from various
teams in the Inishowen League gone,” he said.
