Pressure eased on Inishowen students 27.11.07

SOME of the pressure will be taken off Inishowen Leaving Certificate students next year with changes to the exam timetable announced yesterday.
Students will have less writing to do in the first few days of the exams as they will sit the two English papers on consecutive days. Previously, the two papers were held on the same day.
The changes were welcomed by the Association of Secondary Teachers
Ireland (ASTI) who plan to make more proposals on how the timetable can be further improved for stressed-out students.
Donegal North East T.D., Niall Blaney, welcomed the reforms.
“These reforms translate into less writing time in the first few days of the leaving certificate examination.
“Because of the previous running order of the Leaving Certificate, students were required to do a considerable amount of writing in the first couple of days of the examination," said Deputy Blaney.
“Now, virtually every student will get a half day or two over the first few days of the exams under the new, agreed revised timetable.
“This is a very important reform. Exams are always going to be stressful, but these changes make for a more student-friendly timetable.”

The new look timetable is as follows:
Day 1 - Wednesday, June 4: English Paper 1 & Home Economics (Social & Scientific)
Day 2 – Thursday, June 5 – English Paper 2 & Chemistry
Day 3 – Friday, June 6 - Mathematics Paper 1 & Geography
Day 4 – Monday, June 9 – Mathematics Paper 2 & Irish Paper 1/Aural
Day 5 – Tuesday, June 10 – Irish Paper 2 & Business
Day 6 – Wednesday, June 11 – French & History
Day 7 - Thursday, June 12 – Biology & Art (History & Appreciation)
Days 8 – 11 remain the same.
