Liam all tied up with
President's visit
23.10.07
INISHOWEN INDEPENDENT
editor Liam Porter will be all tied up tomorrow thanks
to a special invitation to meet President of Ireland,
Mary McAleese.
He will attend a function at Aras an
Uachtarain in recognition of the contribution of the
media to Irish society. |
|
Newspaper editors from
local and national newspapers throughout the country
are expected to attend along with producers from
television and radio.
Liam said he was delighted with the invitation and
pleased the role of the media was being recognised
in such an important way.
“It is a great honour and privilege |
to receive an
invitation from the President and I’m really looking
forward to it. I’m delighted too that the huge
contribution the media has made to Irish society is
being honoured by the country’s first citizen," he
said.
Ms. McAleese will meet and greet her guests
individually before making her address during the
hour-and-a-half long function.
Press officer Grainne Mooney explained: “President
McAleese has hosted a number of functions to
recognise the work of various groups during her
terms of office, but this will be the first time
that the media are being honoured with such a
function."
Meanwhile, as Raphoe-born Liam prepared for his
special visit to Dublin, he said that while he
wasn't nervous, he did have some concerns about the
dress code.
“The invite did stress business attire which I guess
means I’ll have to wear a suit and tie.
"All I have to do now I guess is decide whether
it’ll be one of my Bugs Bunny or Homer Simpson ones
or something a bit plainer.”
Whichever one he chooses, he's promised a full
report in next week’s edition of the Inishowen
Independent and maybe a few snippets about the visit
in his popular weekly column.
“I’m sure a visit to the President’s house will give
me some kind of ideas for a Drop of Porter,” he
said. |
