Inishowen drivers face motor
tax hikes
12.11.07
HUNDREDS of drivers of
big-engined cars in the peninsula are to be hit with
huge hikes in their motor insurance. |
The increases, due to
be introduced after the December budget, could be as
much as 10% and will affect engines of 1.6 litres
and over.
The move is being introduced by Green Party
Environment Minister, John Gormley.
It is designed to penalise owners of cars that use
large amounts of fuel under the polluter pays |
|
principle.
As reported recently on InishowenNews.com a total of
157 people in Donegal drive Lexus cars with Mercedes
the choice of a further 853 drivers.
BMWs are the choice of 1,221 people in Donegal while
Audi, Volvo, Saab and Alfa Romeo account for 1,012,
475, 150 and 95 drivers respectively.
The Society of the Irish Motor Industry yesterday
said incentives, not penalties, were the best way of
bringing about change. |
