People in Inishowen
will soon have access to neurology clinics closer to
home following a new appointment by the HSE.
Donegal North East T.D., Deputy Niall Blaney
welcomed news that a consultant neurologist had been
appointed to Sligo General Hospital and would take
up the post in January.
The consultant will bring clinics to Letterkenny
General Hospital up to twice a week as part of the
job.
Deputy Blaney is a long-time campaigner for a
consultant neurologist in the region. He said this
led to a 20-week teleneurophysiology pilot project
in Sligo earlier this year, in conjunction with
Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
And it "paved the way" for the permanent post in the
North West, he said.
“This comes as great news indeed for those patients
who currently travel to Dublin and Galway for EEG
recordings.
"It was not suitable for people who are suffering
from ill health to have to travel long distances to
Dublin for treatment,” he added. |
