THE drive to attract
120 civil servants to Buncrana is to begin in
earnest after contracts were signed to build the
long-awaited decentralised offices.
Work is to start soon on the project that will also
include a driver testing centre and new
state-of-the-art Garda station.
McNamara Construction won the contract and are ready
to move on site. The building will be located near
Ardaravan Square along the inner relief road of the
seaside town.
Cllr. Rena Donaghey said she was delighted the
project set to commence.
Her Fianna Fáil colleague, Senator Cecilia Keaveney
also welcomed the progress on the development.
"This is very significant news for the peninsula and
I know that McNamaras will be anxious to be on site
as soon as possible to deliver a state of the art
facility."
She admitted that the number of civil servants
opting for the move from Dublin and elsewhere to
Buncrana were low but she hoped this would change
now that the project had moved a step closer to
completion.
"I think people initially might have thought it
wasn't going to happen and therefore weren't opting
for it," she said, adding that there was now a
challenge for the peninsula to sell itself.
And she said civil servants should be reassured of
their career prospects in Donegal.
"Within the county there are opportunities for
career development because there are other social
welfare facilities within the county," she added. |
