Mary makes sure you Pedal
Right
09.07.07
A BUNCRANA woman is
going back to basics with a new business venture to
teach children how to safely ride a bike.
Mary Kelly, has just launched Pedal Right, a unique
school offering professional cycling tuition to
children and adults - focusing on the rules of the
road, fitness and the promotion of a healthier
lifestyle. |
|
"It's something I
wanted to do for a long time," explained Mary, who
is a qualified cycling instructor.
"Cycling is such a great activity to do whether for
fun, fitness or just getting from A to B. It is
eco-friendly and it doesn't cost the earth.
"Learning how to cycle properly at a young age is
the first step to becoming a good driver when you're
older |
because it teaches you
the basic rules of the road and the importance of
observation and respect for other road users."
The Pedal Right school is based in Meenagorey, on
the outskirts of Buncrana but lessons will be held
at a location convenient to participants - whether
in groups or on a one-to-one basis. A minimum of two
Pedal Right instructors will be available for each
session.
"We provide off and on road training depending on
the cycling skills of the student and we adhere to
very high safety standards," adds Mary. |
Safety checks on
helmets and bicycles, are carried out before each
lesson begins and if a child doesn't own a
high-visibility vest, one will be provided by Pedal
Right for the duration of the lesson. Mary's venture
has already captured the imagination of a number of
local businesses, including Bikes and Toys in
Carndonagh and Buncrana and Hubert McLaughlin &
Company (HML) in |
|
Buncrana, who have got
on board as sponsors.
Mary now hopes parents throughout Inishowen will
sign their kids up for lessons to ensure they
achieve a level of cycling proficiency that will
keep them safe on the roads for years to come.
