Keaveney launches pet rescue
awards
09.10.07
SENATOR Cecilia
Keaveney yesterday launched the Donegal Pet Rescue
Awards Scheme to recognise people who've gone the
extra mile to help animals. |
|
The Moville-based
senator said there would been "many worthy
recipients" of the awards in the county.
“I congratulate the sterling work of the many
volunteers within the Donegal Pet Rescue group, in
its supports for trying to find homes for abandoned
dogs, cats and so forth," she said.
“I recognise the huge issue of needing to spay both
dogs and cats that are arriving unwanted. I also
appeal in |
the run up to Christmas
that parents consider the wise motto- 'a pet is for
life and not just for Christmas'.”
She said people should think carefully about whether
or not to get a pet.
“No matter how much the heart may want to say yes,
if our circumstances are not appropriate, our head
must say no."
The local Seanad member said people needed to
recognise the "time, energy and emotion" that goes
into keeping a pet.
"It can be a great learning curve for children to
get to grips with the responsibilities of looking
after a creature that needs their feeding and care.
"It has also been seen that animal visits to those
who are sick or incapacitated has a very strong
value.
“For some people, getting involved in the process of
fostering pets or being active in another way for
Donegal Pet Rescue would be an invaluable way of
volunteering," she added. |
