Inishowen people denied planning 12.10.07

PEOPLE in Inishowen are being refused planning permission because of confusion about how the County Development Plan is interpreted, according to a local councillor.

Fine Gael's Cllr. Bernard McGuinness, who tabled a motion to the local authority on the matter, claimed families were being wrongfully denied permission to build. He said the planners maintain that certain things aren't permitted under the plan while councillors believe otherwise. The discrepancy, which has been known for some time, was expected to be settled under a proposed review of the county plan. However, this has now been delayed.
In the meantime, Cllr. McGuinness believes clarification on the points at issue would suffice to allow people get on with building their homes. "I don't think a review of the County Development Plan is needed at all. We just need clarification on the interpretation of it," he explained.
