Quigley's Point
Community Centre committee has been granted funding
of €309,799 to complete its facility for the benefit
of the local area.
Donegal North East Deputy, Cecilia Keaveney, said
she was delighted her intervention had resulted in a
"significant financial injection" for the group.
The centre was initially awarded a capital grant of
€60,000 and a staffing grant of €423,800 under the
2000-2006 Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme.
However, the committee needed more funding to
complete the much-needed facility, which, among a
number of services, caters for the elderly, disabled
and young children.
Deputy Keaveney explained: "I intervened at the
committee's request and set up a meeting with
Minister Lenihan in February of this year, the
results of which have now come through.
"This group have worked extremely hard and have
overcome many a challenge in order to secure this
funding. While it has not been easy by any means,
today's news has been very rewarding."
Quigley's Point Community Centre committee
successfully negotiated a service level agreement
with the HSE to provide a day care service for the
elderly and the disabled.
The group also provide a quality childcare service
to 36 children in a safe environment and will now be
able to complete their pre-school play rooms.
"Like many voluntary committees in Inishowen, this
committee have shown great ambition and foresight.
"At a time when my job is very challenging, projects
like this make it all worthwhile. This committee
have worked so hard since 1998 to create a centre of
excellence for their community and one that they can
be proud of."
