Sunny Malin records fewer wet days 03.07.07
The Malin Head weather
station recorded the fewest wet days in the country
last month.
The local station bucked the trend as its
counterparts around the country including those in
the south east had the highest rainfall since
records began.
The Malin Head statistics, however, were collated
before the severe thunderstorms that swept through
the peninsula from west to east on Saturday.
Buncrana was among the worst hit as the deluge,
accompanied by strong winds battered the seaside
town.
Gardai said no serious weather-related incidents
were reported although there were a number of minor
road accidents. |
Organisers of festivals
including the Inishowen Summer Gathering breathed a
sigh of relief after Saturday's freak storm made way
for brighter, sunnier conditions the following day.
And despite a short-lived thundery downpour in
Moville and Greencastle on Saturday, the two major
local events of the weekend in the area - the
DylanFest and the Vintage Car Rally - enjoyed better
than expected conditions.
Meanwhile, as the Inishowen summer started in
earnest this week with the national school holidays,
Met Eireann is forecasting a continuation of the
unsettled conditions. |
