PLANS are being drawn
up for a state-of-the-art sheltered complex in
Moville for people with intellectual disabilities.
The East Inishowen Special Needs Company Ltd., are
hoping to house 24 people in both high support and
low support units within the development.
Committee spokesperson Sean McCauley told
InishowenNews.com they hoped to apply for planning
permission in the coming months.
"The aim is to build a sheltered facility providing
accommodation for people with varying degrees of
intellectual disability. We hope to build 10 high
support units for people who need a good level of
supervision and 14 low support units for people who
can live more independently with a certain amount of
supervision," he explained. "We also plan to have a
day centre for people who live at home but who can
come in during the day and avail of the services on
offer."
A building has been bought for the project - a
former residential property just off the Malin Road.
If all goes to plan and permission is granted by
Donegal County Council, it is hoped the new
sheltered complex - to be run in association with
the HSE and Oakleigh Housing Trust - will be up and
running in around two-years' time.
Much fundraising will be required in the meantime,
with veteran fundraisers Martha and John Steele
planning to donate the takings from their annual
Christmas lights campaign in Moville to the project
this year.
