PHARMACISTS throughout
Inishowen made nearly €9 million between them last
year through the medical card scheme, latest figures
show.
The league table from the HSE reveals that the top
earning pharmacy in the peninsula was Carn Pharmacy
Ltd., trading as McNeill's in Carndonagh, at more
than €1.9m.
This was followed by Declan Mulholland trading as
Duffy's Pharmacy in Buncrana with a combined total
earnings from his two shops of €1,392,627.
The figures compiled by Harry Walsh of the Donegal
News include earnings of €1,218,160 for Brennan's
Pharmacy Ltd., Buncrana and €1,226,763 for Carn
Pharmacy, Carndonagh. They also include a figure of
€1,279,691 for Healthwise trading as Tierney's,
Buncrana. According to the figures, Cois Na Mara
Pharmacy in Moville earned €1,323,054 while Rexton
Ltd., trading as The Foyle Pharmacy, Moville earned
€592,409.
Meanwhile, the top earning dentist in Inishowen last
year under the medical card scheme was Martin Reid,
Moville at €165,289 followed by Aneta Spring,
Buncrana with €109,203; Breffni Cully, Carndonagh on
€107,839; Martin Higgins, Carndonagh on €88,796 and
Maeve Mulholland, Buncrana on €71,161.
The Health Service Executive stressed that the
figures were gross payments that were inclusive of
allowances paid to practitioners to employ nurses
and secretaries, to cover annual leave and grants
for the development and organisation of premises.
Meanwhile, pharmacists continue to be embroiled in a
row with the HSE over the health service's plans to
cut the price it pays them for drugs, slashing an
estimated €100m off the State's drugs bill next
year. Pharmacists say it will result in them having
to dispense medicine to public patients at a loss
and put their businesses at risk. Check out
