Showcase for young Inishowen
writers
05.06.07
A number of Inishowen
children and teens are among 30 writers selected for
publication in the forthcoming WordFlight Anthology
of Creative Writing.
The 30 young writers, aged between eight and 17
years, were short-listed from 2,300 prose and poetry
entries submitted to WordFlight from across Ireland,
Britain, Europe, the US and the Middle East.
WordFlight is an international literary and verbal
arts project connecting young people with this
year’s Flight of the Earls commemorations in
Donegal.
It is designed and managed by Patrick Kearney,
writer and director, with Artists in Creative
Enterprise (ACE). |
The WordFlight Literary
Panel meanwhile, comprised David Gothard, associate
artist with the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, Clionagh
Boyle, head of Derry Children’s Commission and
Traolach ó Fionnáin, Donegal County Council's arts
officer.
Mr. Kearney explained: "With the |
|
generous support of
Donegal County Council, the International Fund for
Ireland, Excellence in Cities and other lead
partners, young people explored the Flight of the
Earls through writing prose and poetry.
"This in turn helped them to contemplate their own
experiences of loss and new beginnings and to have a
better understanding of life’s challenges and
themselves."
As part of the Flight of the Earls commemorations in
September 2007, Inishowen's winning writers will rub
shoulders with other young writers from across the
world. They will then be invited to attend the
WordFlight Anthology book launch and prize-giving
event where the 30 winning writers and their works
will be announced.
