Ryder Cup stars bound for
Ballyliffin

GOLFING legends Ian
Woosnam, Sandy Lyle, Sam Torrance and Constantino
Rocca are to play the European Seniors Tour at
Ballyliffin Golf Club this summer, it's been
confirmed. |
Preparations are well
under way at the award-winning course for the
prestigious week-long tournament in June.
It is expected the former Ryder Cup stars will be a
major crowd puller and will guarantee a great
atmosphere in Ballyliffin for the week of the event.
"The awarding of this prestigious event to The Old
Links is testament to |

the considerable
investment by the club in recent years in
conjunction with Faldo Design," said club manager,
John Farren.
He said European Tour staff had visited the club a
number of times in recent weeks and had been highly
impressed with the facilities and setting for the
event. Tour staff are to be based at the Trasna
House Hotel with players and media taking up a good
number of other hotels in the area. |

The Irish Seniors Open
will be staged from June 20 to June 22 on The Old
Links and will elevate Ballyliffin Golf Club to the
unique position of having two tour championship
links venues. The Glashedy Links hosted the Ladies
Irish Open in 1998 and the North West of Ireland
Open in 2002.
The tournament is a three day event with a field of
72 professionals and is preceded |
and is preceded by two
pro-am days.
A very limited number of teams may be available for
the pro-am but with sponsors being given priority
there will be very few places available.
